The Acharius Medals 2014 awarded to P.L. Nimis and P. Crittenden
2014
The Acharius Medal rewards distinguished lichenologists in recognition of their life work with a silver medal in honour of Erik Acharius, the “father of Lichenology” was awarded to P.L. Nimis and P. Crittenden during the 10th International Mycological Congress held in Bangkok (Thailand).
Lichenological studies in Sicily: a thorough biblography (1692-2020)
2020
A bibliography on lichens in Sicily has been compiled and is here provided, as a comprehensive source to facilitate further studies focused on the regional territory. We checked the available literature from 1692 to 2020. We listed alphabetically a selection of 397 key publications and provided some comments on their distribution in time and space, and on the main studied topics. The complete reference list is freely available online.
Aphyllophoraceous wood-inhabiting fungi on Quercus spp. in Italy
2008
240 species representing 100 genera of aphyllophoraceous fungi growing on Quercus spp. in Italy are listed. Some species are considered rare or infrequent in Italy, e.g. Bulbillomyces farinosus, Dendrothele dryina, Fomitopsis iberica, F. spraguei, Hyphoderma incrustatum, Inonotus andersonii.
Allium albanicum (Amaryllidaceae), a new species from Balkans and its relationships with A. meteoricum Heldr. & Hausskn. ex Halácsy
2019
A new species, Alliumalbanicum, is described and illustrated from Albania (Balkan Peninsula). It grows on serpentines or limestone in open rocky stands with a scattered distribution, mainly in mountain locations. Previously, the populations of this geophyte were attributed to A.meteoricum Heldr. & Hausskn. ex Halácsy, described from a few localities of North and Central Greece. These two species indeed show close relationships, chiefly regarding some features of the spathe valves, inflorescence and floral parts. They also share the same diploid chromosome number 2n =16 and similar karyotype, while seed testa micro-sculptures and leaf anatomy reveal remarkable differences. There are …
Phenol compounds as a New Materials for EPR dosimetry in radiation therapy
2016
Among the various dosimetric techniques used for characterizing the radiation beams used in radiation therapy, the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) arouses increasing interest for applications in various therapy procedures. When a compound is irradiated with ionizing radiations free radicals are produced and their concentration is proportional to the absorbed dose. This allows for dosi-metric measurements through EPR technique which is able to quantitatively de-termine the radical concentration. Our research group has started an investigation of the EPR response of some phenols compounds for possible dosimetric applications. In this work we report the EPR investigation of IRGANOX 1076 …
Lexical cohesion revisited. A combined corpus and systemic-functional analysis
2018
In this chapter I argue for a refinement of the classic SFL approach to lexical cohesion. First, a literature overview is provided in which key principles and related categories are examined. In addition, the connection of cohesion and discourse co-herence is addressed and an overview is provided of the wide range of applications that the former has in such fields as genre studies, language teaching and learning, psycholinguistics and computational linguistics, among others. The core SFL models of cohesion are then revisited in order to propose a modified taxonomy of lexical co-hesion, involving five distinct types (repetition, synonymy, opposition, inclusion and association) that are cross…

Hjelmslev et la "fonction sémiotique", du modèle structural au modèle cognitif
2008
The article discusses the concept of semiotics function in Hjelmslev, finding sources of the theory of language’s stratification. The semiotic function, which is in Hjelmslev the principle underlying the dynamic layering, is identified here as both an attraction of two heterogeneous spaces and as a set of operations of sense’s establishment. At historiographic level, this article presents a new hypothesis of interpretation, that the hjelmslevian structuralism has not built a static theory of language, disinterested to the cognitive dimension, but a careful theory to operational aspects of semiosis.
El informe de arbitraje científico: Sobre cortesía atenuadora y sexo del evaluador
2020
This article defines, from a theoretical perspective, the scientific arbitration report as discursive genre, located in a chain of genres with two recipients, the purpose being to contextualize why a mitigating courtesy strategy is activated. The objective of the research is twofold: firstly, it attempts to determine which are the specific resources to formulate linguistically the above mentioned strategy in a corpus of arbitration reports; secondly, it aims to unveil whether the sex of the reports’ evaluators is a parameter that influences the impersonality strategy in order to minimize the presence of the subject of the statement. The method of analysis is based on sociocultural pragmati…
